L. Emmanuel YEO is an entrepreneur and CEO of LYNAYS, LLC., an energy and systems engineering firm in Cote D'Ivoire, West Africa. His company offers a variety of products and services, including solutions that address energy efficiency. LYNAYS acts as a partner and distributor for H I Solutions in Africa.  A true entrepreneur, Mr. Yeo has also been involved in other diverse business ventures that contribute to the growth and development of the economy of Cote d'Ivoire -- including operating a cashew nut processing plant.  Mr. Yeo kindly agreed to answer a few interview questions for us about his company and work.

Describe LYNAYS, LLC. What is the mission of your company?

Yeo:  LYNAYS’ corporate mission is to provide reliable solutions to problems such as the high cost of energy, energy inefficiency, the depletion of resources and the degradation of the environment. LYNAYS is committed to providing Energy Engineering Solutions for building management and building operation problems as well as supporting economic growth through System Engineering Solutions. LYNAYS also operates a cashew nuts processing plant.

Tell us about the building automation and controls industry in Cote D'Ivoire. How is the industry changing and what do you anticipate happening over the next several years?

Yeo: The building automation and controls industry in Cote d’Ivoire are emerging. Building automation is often seen in banks for security related issues only. For the next several years, building automation and controls are going to become key for lowering the operating cost of buildings, energy conservation, and energy efficiency.

What are the primary sources of electricity in Cote D'Ivoire? What initiatives are being taken to address energy conservation and energy efficiency?

Yeo: In Cote D'Ivoire, natural gas power plants supply about 70% of the country's power demand and hydroelectricity covers 30%. Renewable energy, bio-fuel and bio-energy are often talked about as potential solution to energy problems. Sometimes energy efficiency problems have been addressed with the replacement of older, less efficient
equipment with newer and more efficient ones. LYNAYS is providing building automation and controls as a key solution to energy conservation and energy efficiency problems.

Can you tell us about some of the interesting projects you are working on?

Yeo: Currently, LYNAYS is working on a building automation project which includes some 15 buildings in the cities of Abidjan and Yamoussoukro in Cote d’Ivoire. The operating cost of these buildings is so high (unbearable) that LYNAYS has been commissioned to do something about it. Since the power bill represents about 80% of the operating cost, LYNAYS is using the Field Commander energy management and building automation system to solve these problems.
